Hi! I’m Keqing — a local high school Chinese teacher based in Auckland, New Zealand. With over nine years of language teaching experience across China and New Zealand, I’ve spent much of my life helping young people connect with language, culture, and identity.LingNest was born during a season of growth — quite literally — as our family welcomed our second child. In our home, we navigate Chinese, Korean, and Kiwi cultures every day, often across multiple time zones and multiple passports. LingNest grew out of that lived reality, grounded in the belief that language is more than grammar and vocabulary — it’s a bridge to belonging.

A drifting letter traveling through the world,
a picture book about weather and “home.”
We are turning the weather of our memories into a book
— Letters to the Weather.
A letter “sent to the wrong address,” carried by the wind across the world — from the fine drizzle of New Zealand to the autumn breeze of Korea; from the snowy nights of Russia to the sunshine of Malaysia; and to the plum-rain season in the river towns of Jiangnan. This book is not only about climates, but about belonging — the home we came from, and the one we found along the way.
Weather is the most direct thread of memory — a scent, a light, a sound can bring you back to a place in an instant. For third culture people and immigrants, weather often connects to “another home.”
Through weather, we hope to speak gently about leaving and returning, drifting and belonging.
We’re gathering weather memories from around the world — real voices that will become the “epilogue surprise” of our picture book and part of an online sound exhibition. Whether you’re a third culture child or adult, someone living abroad, traveling, or simply wishing to send a piece of weather to someone special — we’ll treasure your story.
Your letter can be a single sentence or a drawing. There’s no right answer, no need to prepare — just follow your memory back to that moment filled with light and scent.
You can answer any one of the questions below,
then send your “weather” to us through the form (or by email):
Which “home” comes to your mind right now?
What does the weather there sound or smell like — soil, tea, flowers, the sea? Rain, wind, cicadas?
If you could wrap a kind of weather as a gift, who would you send it to — and why?
Write a line to the weather, for example: “Auckland’s rain, …”
Selected letters will be featured — anonymously or with your name, as you choose — in the “Letters to the Weather” epilogue of the picture book, as well as on our website and in the accompanying sound exhibition.

An illustrated poem for those we love across the distance
— a book that gives longing its shape, its sound, its warmth.
Across mountains and seas,
we are still under the same wind.
Wherever the wind passes,
someone is thinking of you.
Some kinds of love never speak loudly, yet they never fade. They live in the quiet bubbling of a soup pot, in the sudden return of a child’s mother tongue, in the wind that carries the rhythm of changing seasons. The Wind Between Mountains and Seas is a letter that crosses oceans — a gentle story told through images and poetry, about the invisible threads that hold families together. Even when mountains, seas, time zones, and languages stand between us, the small details of life still whisper to one another. It is a book for children — to know they are loved, even from afar. And for adults — to remember that scent, touch, and memory never truly leave the ones they belong to.
Each spread holds two worlds — distant, yet close enough to hear each other breathe. A thread begins in one world and becomes the child’s sweater in another; the drizzle from this side of the mountain falls softly into that side’s small river; the scent of milk and the steam of tea meet in the wind.
All these gentle threads shimmer beyond what the eyes can see. Somewhere between two moments in time, you and your loved ones will find your own echo too.

For children growing up in multicultural worlds,
the meaning of home is fluid —
their emotional bonds stretch across places and languages.
Between each farewell and reunion,
they learn to reorganize and retell their own story. This is LingNest’s very first picture book,
dedicated to all children and adults
who are finding themselves among multiple cultures. It gently accompanies us in exploring —
Who am I?
Where do I belong?
and What do I hold dear?
For Third Culture Kids, goodbyes come often — but each farewell carries a gift, a trace of love that stays.
Joy’s Keychain gently helps children hold that feeling, reminding them that behind every door lies not only sadness and longing, but also warmth and belonging. The three symbolic keys in Joy’s hands open three doors of memory — each revealing a home, a language, and a piece of herself.
In the illustrations, a living room filled with Chinese, Korean, and New Zealand toys reflects Joy’s multicultural world. A half-open suitcase symbolizes the rhythm of movement and change in a Third Culture childhood — full of stories carried across borders. Both the suitcase and the keys appear again in other Roots & Wings picture books, forming quiet threads across stories. At the end of the book, readers are invited to draw their own key and door — a doorway that leads back to the feeling of home.

The Roots & Wings picture book series is created for Third Culture Kids (TCKs) and multilingual families navigating identity across borders, languages, and cultures. At its heart, this series gently names and validates the complex feelings children experience when growing up between worlds, helping them recognize their hybrid cultural identity as a quiet superpower.Through story, language, and representation, each book offers emotional anchoring — a “nest” where feelings are seen, and children are reminded that they belong.Because every child deserves both roots to hold them, and wings to help them soar.

Joy’s Keychain is a gentle letter for children growing up between different places, languages, and homes. Joy has a little keychain filled with memories — each key opens to a different “home.” She often wonders: Which key belongs to my true home? One day, as she uses the keys to unlock her memories, Joy discovers that home doesn’t have just one shape. The gentle jingle of her keys becomes her unique sound of “Who am I.”
This is the first picture book in the Roots & Wings series, inviting every cross-cultural child to redefine “home” in their own way.

The Wind Between Mountains and Sea is a letter that drifts across oceans. Through images and poetry, it tells the gentle story of love that remains across distance — even when mountains, seas, time zones, and languages separate us. Every small detail of daily life still quietly responds across that distance.
This book is for children — to remind them that someone, somewhere, is loving them in silence. And it is also for adults — to remind us that familiar scents, objects, and memories are never truly far away.

Letters to Weather is a multi-voiced picture book — a collection of many memories. The story begins with a letter sent to “home.” Carried by the wind, it travels across the world. At every stop, the letter overhears quiet conversations between people and their weather.
We also invite those who move between worlds to share a piece of weather from their own memories — no right answers, no preparation needed. Just follow your memory, and write a small letter to the wind, the rain, the sunlight, or the snow you once saw.
